The following photograph and report was submitted to KRG via our Submit a Sighting page on September 2, 2015 and may not be reproduced in any way without expressed written consent. Type of Sighting: Kahuna Research Group Analysis: While the object in question is not a Menehune, it appears to be the phenomena known as a "flying rod", which has been reported by numerous other witnesses across the world. The original photo could be the clearest photo ever captured in Hawaii of such object and is the first reported case to KRG. The case is currently under investigation. Further findings, if any, will be reported here. (Update 9/10/2015 - KRG replaced the original photo with an artist's rendition) Previous Research The Wikipedia page for flying rods includes a few cases where further analysis into the phenomena showed they were possibly just moths. "Rods" (sometimes known as "skyfish", "air rods", or "solar entities") is a term used in cryptozoology, ufology, and outdoor photography to refer to elongated artifacts in the form of light-rods produced by cameras. Videos of rod-shaped objects moving quickly through the air were claimed by some ufologists and cryptozoologists to be alien life forms, "extradimensional" creatures, or very small UFOs. Subsequent experiments showed that these rods appear in film because of an optical illusion/collusion (especially in interlaced video recording), and are typically traces of a flying insect's wingbeats. On August 8/9, 2005, China Central Television (CCTV) aired a two-part documentary about flying rods in China. It reported the events from May to June of the same year at Tonghua Zhenguo Pharmaceutical Company in Tonghua City, Jilin Province, which debunked the flying rods. Surveillance cameras in the facility's compound captured video footage of flying rods identical to those shown in Jose Escamilla's video. Getting no satisfactory answer to the phenomenon, curious scientists at the facility decided that they would try to solve the mystery by attempting to catch these airborne creatures. Huge nets were set up and the same surveillance cameras then captured images of rods flying into the trap. When the nets were inspected, the "rods" were no more than regular moths and other ordinary flying insects. Subsequent investigations proved that the appearance of flying rods on video was an optical illusion created by the slower recording speed of the camera. Rod / Skyfish Documentary

Ghosts and Spirits... Even though haunting-type events can be a bit scary, bear in mind that approximately 90% of all hauntings can be explained by natural occurrences. Even if your case is one of the few that involves genuine phenomena, don’t panic. Contrary to what you may have seen on TV, ghosts and spirits cannot harm you. View ghosts in the same manner you would view any other human being. When a ghost or spirit shows up, there is usually a reason. Therefore, it helps to acknowledge the spirit by speaking out to him or her just as you would when a benevolent stranger shows up at your door. Firmly and directly let the spirit know that he or she is trespassing on your property without permission (this is a boundary violation). Do not become emotional nor show fear. Tell the spirit that you are not in a position to help and that you respectfully demand that he or she leaves your home immediately. You may need to repeat your demand if the activity does not subside. Again, vocalize your demands firmly, directly, and without fear or anger. If the paranormal activity persists, you may need the help of qualified and professional paranormal investigators who can verify and resolve the activity. Click Here to locate a Certified Paranormal Investigator in your state in the Paranexus Directory. If they do not have a member in your area, you should be able to find a local group with an online search. If all else fails, contact us and we'll help find one for you. It is also crucial that you use the Experiencer's Form attached to this post to document and record the details of your experience and submit them for scientific review. Try not to compare notes with any other witnesses if possible. Be diligent in recording any and all details of the event including what you were doing when the activity erupted and who witnessed it. In any case, do not be afraid. UFO Sightings... As with other paranormal phenomena, the vast majority of UFO sightings can be explained by natural occurrences. Try to rule out stars, aircraft, freak cloud formations, promotional and advertising blimps, balloons, and other types of natural phenomena. For this reason, we have a web page for monitoring live air traffic. If it wasn't an aircraft, you can report it or check to see if anyone else reported in on the live UFO map. If you have seen something truly strange, use the form attached to this post to document and record the details of your sighting. Be sure to record the direction the craft was going, the event duration, the time of day/night, the approximate angle in the sky, and the shape of the craft. To estimate size, use common and known units of measurement, such as a football field (100 yards x 160 feet, or 91.4 meters x 48.8 meters). To estimate distance, use known landmark distances for comparison (if available). Understand that estimating distances and altitudes is very difficult (if not impossible) for anyone. Try to sketch the shape of the craft as best you can while the sighting is still fresh in your mind. To the extent possible, do not discuss your sighting with any other witnesses before investigators have an opportunity to interview everyone. If you do not personally know other witnesses, try to get their contact info in the event investigators want to get their perspective. KRG: The following testimony involves heavy supernatural activity in Kailua Kona here on the Big Island and was submitted to us by a retired Private Investigator by the name of Sean S. on May 12, 2014. All Rights Reserved. © I'm a retired PI. I conducted investigations involving automobile accidents, both the physical and human aspects. One particular case occurred on Mamalahoa Highway on The Big Island of Hawai'i between Kailua-Kona and Waikoloa. A family of four was returning to Kona and was struck head on by a drunk driver. Three in the family and the offending driver expired at the scene. My investigation commenced the morning after the accident. This sighting was reported to KRG on 12/1/2014 via our "Submit a Sighting" page. Witness: Joe K. Compiled by Zach Royer [NOTE: Each photo or video description below (except #3 & #9, which I submitted) comes directly from the eye-witness or photo submitter, and has not been altered or edited in any way.] #1 - I'm submitting this for a friend. From his account of events he was just enjoying the mountainside and decided to photograph it. When he developed the film he found the object. He gave it to me so that I could possibly figure what it is. #2 - Didn't see anything visible, noticed the object a few hours later while going over my days photos. Photo taken at Mookini Heiau, the site was completely deserted except for a very abrasive care taker and my family. I had just walked to the entrance, I was standing just to the right of the Mookini Heiau sign. Photos previous and post, within a few seconds show nothing out of the ordinary. I thought it may be dirt but why would the previous and post photos have no sign of lense dirt. Camera was brand spankin new outta the box. I never saw the object. It looks spherical and is lighter on top than on the bottom. The walls to the right are about 10 feet tall if not taller. #3 - This photo was taken above Pu'u Honua o Honaunau (City of Refuge) on the Big Island by me (Zach Royer). I was visiting the area that day to take pictures for my book, Hawaii Vortex Field Guide. As it usually goes, you capture something strange on film when you least expect it. The object in the top right corner of the photo is an extremely anomalous disk shaped UFO, and it is not the first time I've caught something like this while snapping random shots around the Island. I believe the other object in the water at left to be a boat, however it could very well be another craft, lower on the horizon making it look like a boat. Both have similar shapes. My theory is that these crafts are capable of traveling at such high speeds that we cannot see them with the naked eye, that is, unless they slow down or come to a complete stop. Notice how blurry the object is. |
