Kahuna Research Group is raising $30,000 to purchase a professional LiDAR drone system and a portable projection setup for documentary screenings, educational presentations, and community events.
LiDAR—short for Light Detection and Ranging—allows researchers to create highly detailed three-dimensional maps of the landscape. This technology will help KRG document archaeological features, historic locations, geological formations, trails, and other areas of research interest with greater accuracy and minimal disturbance to the land. The system will also support site monitoring, mapping, digital preservation, and the creation of visual materials for future documentaries and educational programs. The majority of the funds will be used for the LiDAR-equipped drone, batteries, field accessories, mapping software, data storage, operator training, safety equipment, and other costs necessary to conduct responsible aerial research. A portion of the campaign will fund a professional portable presentation system, including a high-quality projector, large screen, sound equipment, protective cases, and supporting accessories. This equipment will allow KRG to share its documentaries, research findings, interviews, maps, and educational materials with schools, community groups, cultural organizations, donors, and the public.
